A good dentist will not only fix any problems with your teeth, but will also provide you with plenty of ways to keep your teeth healthy. Here’s a look at some helpful ways to keep your teeth strong and healthy all year long.

Most people receive reminder cards that tell them when they should come by for their regular dental check-up. The general rule is one visit every six months. But in order to maintain a bright smile, one visit every three months is more advisable. Bacteria quickly builds up and 90 days is plenty of time for a significant amount to accumulate.

When it comes to bacteria, brushing will usually only get rid of 50% of that buildup. Flossing is important to eliminate that other 50% of bacteria. Floss has the capability of reaching the bacteria your toothbrush was not able to get. This is why good dentists are so emphatic about the importance of flossing.
Limit the amount of sugar you take in. No matter what you say when you enter a dental office, a good dentist knows that a mouth never lies. Your gums and teeth let dentists know such things as whether you are a soda or coffee drinker. Patterns in your gums and teeth show signs of gum recession, erosion and more. Dentists know what you are eating and when they tell you to limit your sugar, it’s because your mouth is telling them to.

Everyone should brush their teeth more than once a day, but using an electric toothbrush is much better for your teeth. The brush heads are able to clean around the tooth at a greater speed and have more capability of cleaning the buildup of plaque and bacteria. Some electric toothbrushes even have a timer, so you don’t cheat yourself out of any brushing time.

Rinse your mouth with mouthwash a couple of times a day as it can reach bacteria that was missed while brushing. Also clean your tongue when brushing your teeth as that can be another place for bacteria to breed. Taking vitamins on a regular basis will also go a long way towards maintaining stronger and healthier teeth.
